Some Unnoted but good enhancement in Excel 2007

Hi,

We have all talked about some of the new features in the Excel 2007. But there is one feature that has been missed in the heap of all the new big features. The features on the extensibility.

Excel 2003 had some restriction on the size of data it can work with (Believe me I have faced it when need to present reports with huge amount of data.). The amount of data that excel 2007 can take is much more than excel 2003. Here is a small comparison between the 2.

Features                      Excel 2003    Excel 2007

Maximum Columns                   256                  16000 (WOW)

Maximum Rows                         64,000             1,00,000

Maximum Number                     30                    255
of function argument

Formula Length                           1,000               8,000

Nested Formula’s                          7                      64

These small enhancement in the capability of excel can make huge difference in its usage for large data.

In addition, excel 2003's limit on the amount of conditional formats is increased from 3 to 64+ (depending on the available memory)

Few people will truly need those supposed 'enhancements'. It's hard enough understanding 7 nested ifs but 64 - give me a break, there are better and more understandable ways of constructing nested ifs - VBA for example.

1 million row, well very few people are going to make use of more than 65536 rows. There are exceptions when importing large database files - but they are rare.

Even more columns is going to be required by few.

Sorry, but your enthusiasm for unwanted 'enhancements' is endearing but I'm afraid that's all.
